Our grief over Bill’s passing is exceeded only by the gratitude we feel for having known and worked with such an extraordinary man. Everyone who came in contact with Bill came away changed by his unique blend of enthusiasm, integrity, warmth, determination, humor, perceptivity and charisma.

Bill was blessed during his life with great success and recognition, and yet his real wealth was not of money or fame, but his capacity to relate to everyone he met, his joy of living, his commitment to honesty and fairness, and his faith. In his personal interactions he always exemplified his motto that “service is not servitude”.

Through Bill’s foresight and personality, he helped to transform the senior housing industry. Bill dedicated himself to providing a gracious and caring lifestyle for seniors, at the most affordable price possible. The “independent living” model pioneered by Holiday Retirement under Bill’s leadership today allows seniors to live in community, eliminating isolation and improving security, and greatly promoting their physical, social and intellectual well-being. The reach of Bill’s vision has been felt not only throughout North America, but also in the United Kingdom and France.
